A REPORT ON THE FRIENDS OF YORKSHIRE OPEN SHOW
Text
and photographs by David Marshall, Editor of the Y.A.A.S. Newsletter & Editor
of the Aquarium Gazette computer disc magazine. On Sunday 10th
August the Friends of Yorkshire Open Show was held at Stockton-on-the-Forest. The
Open Show drew a total of 135 entries. Many excellent, and rarely seen, fish were
on the bench, including Leiocassis hossii, Devario sondhii, Trispilos barb, Puntius
phutino, Rhodeus atermius, Golden pygmy swordtail and Akysis maculipinnis. Judges
Trevor Douglas, Mick Price and David Marshall had a hard task finding the Best
in Show from several outstanding fish, but at the end of the day, a Galaxy Rasbora,
owned by John Hetherington (Workington A.S.) would take the title by a fraction
of a point. The Best Exhibit award was won by Mr. Roy Blackburn
(Castleford A.S.) with the wonderful pair of Akysis prashadi that are so difficult
to fault. Once again Steve Jones assembled his team to marshal
the auction and they had a very busy afternoon. Talking of
auctioneers, this was a sad day for the Y.A.A.S. as Ivor and Edith Johnson of
I.&E. Aquarist Society announced that this would be their final show day.
Their presence will be much missed. It was good to have Dr.
David Ford with us, promoting aquatic products produced by the Mars Corporation.
The Aquarium Gazette (the U.K.'s only bi-monthly computer disc aquarium magazine)
was also present with an excellent display stand. Finally thank
you to the catering staff, administration staff and to all those who gave their
time to help.
